In a previous article, we posed the question on the possibility of TV wall mount failures and looked at available reports online regarding such occurrences. We saw that such accidents are definitely a possibility especially if the wall mount was not properly installed or mounted. It was suggested that the best way to go about it is to have the wall brackets installed professionally. Or, if you go the DIY route, you need to make sure that you understand what you are doing (and have the necessary tools and know-how to correctly mount the brackets). At any rate, it can be surmised that TV wall mount failures are pretty rare events and that most of them are pretty easily and safely installed with the aforementioned simple precaution of making sure that the devices are properly and correctly installed. If, however, you find yourself persistently averse to the idea of drilling holes into your wall to install a TV wall mount and are looking for other ideas, then you may wish to look into pop-up TV lift cabinets.
Pop-up TV lifts/cabinets, as the name indicates, are cabinets that can house your flat screen (LCD/LED) TVs in brackets or mounts can lift them to optimal viewing height whenever needed. After watching, the cabinet allows you to lower the TV so that it is out of sight until you need to use it again.
The great thing about this option is that you don’t need to have any contraption installed or mounted on any of your walls and you no longer have to punch small holes into your home just to enjoy big flat screen TV viewing. With TV lift cabinets, your walls are sure to stay happy which, in our opinion, does have a better aesthetic appeal to it. With TV lifts, you can actually hide your big screen televisions out of sight until you need to use it.
One big drawback to choosing TV lift cabinets over the conventional wall mounts is the fact that the former are more expensive than the latter. The reason here is obvious since we are buying a cabinet that can safely house a big flat screen TV, and which are usually made of wood. Hence, we are also paying for a piece of nicely made furniture aside from a flat screen TV mount.
Do we recommend lift cabinets over wall mounts? It truly depends on the preference of a homeowner. They do have compelling relative advantages and disadvantages so there is really no wrong answer to this question. If you choose to go the wall bracket/mount route, just make sure to have it properly installed by trained personnel to prevent the risk of any failure. On the other hand, be prepared to shell out a bigger amount if you choose to buy a lift cabinet for your TV.
