Here are a couple of useful videos that hope to address a notorious problem or issue, particularly on an E-series and M-series flat screens by Vizio. If your unit has no images or pictures showing up on the screen, or screen may be blacked out or maybe even showing up as blue or gray screen but you see images when you shine a flashlight on the screen (a.k.a. the flashlight check) and it also has sounds coming out of the speakers, then watching this repair video might be worth your time before you opt for the pricier routes to fix the problem. The video may turn out to golden despite the fact that it seems to have been was taken using a smart phone in portrait mode… oh well *shrug*.
The flat screen TV in the video is a Vizio E550i-B2 and the issue is basically caused by weakened or loose or even broken solder connections between the driver board and main board. The above video is by Brad Deland.
Note that the symptom mentioned above may have other causes aside from loose solder points between the main and driver board. One such cause is a faulty power board. Below is a video that talks about this particular issue and how to fix it via the power supply replacement route (applicable to models E550i-B2 and M550i-B2). This video is provided by ShopJimmy.com.
As per usual, if you’re a DIY electronics repair noob, I suggest going ahead consulting a professional if you do not have the proper tools and safety knowledge. You might make things worse trying to save a few bucks.
