One of my favorite Youtube channels for getting some really helpful DIY fixes is Frugal Repair and I’ve been following the guy’s videos. This channel discusses all kinds of do-it-yourself fixes for everyday gadgets and devices. One of his recent posts discussed a very cheap DIY fix for a common Vizio TV problem that’s usually good enough reason for people to go throw their TV out with the daily trash. Well, my suggestion is to watch this video as it might just help you keep your device out of the landfill— and keep your money in your bank account.
The TV Problem symptoms include:
- When you turn on the TV, the Vizio logo does not appear
- Backlight seems to be operational and you can see the lower edges of the screen glowing blue or purple but no pictures appear.
- There may be sounds but no pictures.
The fix involved looking into the T-CON board which is a very common cause of the issues listed above. The board can be removed to be tested or it can be tested without removed from the TV. The culprit turned out to be a bad transistor that needed to be replaced. Cost of replacement was 54 cents. Rounding it up to $1 to account for future inflation. 🙂 The video also contains some really helpful quick tips on which repair tools to use so pay attention to that as well.
If you’re looking for places where you can buy transistors and TV parts, you may check out our TV parts directory for some leads.
One great lesson here is that you should not be in a hurry to throw away your electronic devices and in effect, contribute to the ever growing problem electronic wastes. Ey, I say go check out Frugal Repair’s videos for more tips. Might just save you some money buying new things all the time!
