Technology has no doubt come a long way over the years and continues to advance rapidly. Of course, it is far from perfect and there are a number of things that can go wrong with any given household appliance or gadget. There are some very impressive televisions on the market these days. Vizio, for example, offers an array of LCD, LED, and plasma models in all sizes. Any of these common Vizio TV problems may arise at any time throughout the life of the set.

Perhaps the most common complaint regarding Vizio TVs is the appearance of a blank black screen even when the set is switched on and the indicator light is glowing. The screen may still light up in some instances, but in either case the screen remains blank. This issue is usually corrected by replacing the power board, but there are several other things that could be the culprit, like the backlight converter, the T-con board, or even just a faulty screen itself. If a repair shop does not have all of the LCD TV parts that could possibly be causing the problem readily available, they may need to order them all in order to single out the guilty part, which can get rather pricey.
Faulty remotes are another common issue. This is one of the much easier and inexpensive Vizio TV problems to fix. Usually this is due to a bad IR sensor or a loose wire and the parts can generally be found online for less than 20 bucks. If the cause is unknown, just replacing the remote altogether is also fairly easy and of course less expensive than dealing with a problem with the TV itself.
Commonly reported Vizio TV problems also include sound-related issues. This may be a matter of faulty speakers or disconnected wires, which are both easily remedied. If it is an issue with the main unit, then it will be a little more difficult and expensive to fix.
There are many shops offering LCD TV repair services. Purchasing an extended warranty is usually advised to cover the cost of potential expensive repairs and replacements but you will need to rely on your judgment on whether the price of the extended warranty will truly be worth it (most of them are quite pricey).

I bought a Vizio E500i-A0 (50 inch LED TV) a couple of years ago at Sam’s Club for my mother. Within the past couple of months the TV has had this re-occurring problem. After turning the set on, anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour the screen will go blank, the sound will mute a couple of seconds later and after about 10 seconds after the sound mutes, the TV will turn back on. This problem will repeat as long as you have the TV on. I set the sound and picture settings back to factory defaults and uploaded the latest firmware for the TV. The problem happens using either the antenna input or the HDMI input.

I have a 55″ that has turned itself off once in a while since purchased , now I can’t get sound to the sound bar and the volume control on the remote will turn sound off with picture or sound on with black screen. I’m going to return to factory settings as recommended , and start the setup all over again. Almost forgot, it won’t hold a wi fi connection either. I won’t purchase another Vizio.

I have a 60″ flat screen that has the “blackout” disease mentioned in this article, apparently, it’s more common than I thought. It started about 8 months after purchase. Vizio was fairly accommodating with their support since it was still under warranty. They had both major boards replaced, but that did not solve the problem completely. I am now waiting for them to replace the unit. However, from my positive perspective…excellent picture (as good as my other Sony) and no other concerns/problems

My VP422 will not display the size adjustment for the picture, only shows a very light menu for such adjustment. All others are normal and easily read. Consequently I cannot read some script at the bottom of the picture and some at top is hidden. Is there a part gone bad?
Do I need to take it in for repair or is there a part I can replace? Where would I learn about such a procedure?
The set is several years old now.

I bought a 36″(?) Vizio and on the 13 month the picture started ‘blinking’ constantly! I called Vizio and the rude person basically said “too bad”! I took to tv repair shop twice, it worked ok for about a week then started blinking again,2nd time, same result. Vizio is JUNK! Any suggestions what might be wrong? If I dont fix it Im going to take it out and shoot it to pieces!!!
jerry says
Ive got same problem, took to shop & they said it was the LED backlight going bad, it’s not quite 2 years old but out of warranty period. Don’t know final cost but hope its not too bad. it worked fine up until this.

We recently purchased (November 2015) a 37 inch Vizio TV. Works well except that the picture gets “brighter” then “darker” ??? This happens on all channels. We have had no power surges in our home. The remote is working well. What could cause this?
Chris says
Theres a light sensor in most Vizio TVs. Turn it off in the menus and it’ll stop adjusting.
Ken says
I believe this is one of the settings you can change. Going from memory, dynamic contrast might be what you need to change.
It is supposed to make the black appear blacker by backlighting the other areas of the screen.
I watch a lot of hockey, and with the white ice the contstant turning on and off of the backlighting was annoying. Once I turned this feature off it stopped.
Again, I am not 100% sure the name of the feature is dynamic contrast, but I believe it is.

I have a 42″ Vizio and when I turn it on there are red, green, and blue squiggly lines and the picture freezes and is distorted. This usually goes away after 3 to 5 minutes. As time goes on it is taking longer to go away. Does anyone else have this problem, or any suggestions how to fix it?
Paul says
Kat, I’m experiencing this same problem. Mine has had the blue line for the past three to four months and just today another line; this time green has appeared. From your comment, it looks like I must be expecting more lines sooner or later. Have you had anyone suggested a remedy? Thanks
Dawn says
Purchased my 48″ in July 2015 and at least once a week when I turn it on it has a pink screen and no volume. I have to turn it off and turn it back on.

Did you ever get this problem figured out? My Vizio tv is doing the exact same thing and I am wondering what to do about it.
