APRIL, 2020 UPDATE: This training by Kent Liew now includes information relevant to newer television models with more innovative upgrades to the LCD TVs of the past. You will now find repair information on LED/OLED, 3D TVs along with Smart TV repair information!
The liquid crystal display (LCD) has come a long way from its Japanese digital watch beginnings. Today you’ll find LCDs/LEDs/OLEDs everywhere and one area that it has experienced exponential growth in is in the entertainment devices industry, particularly, the flat screen television segment.
If you bought one yourself and are looking and are reading this post then I’m guessing things may have turned ugly for you and your LCD or LED/OLED TV and that perhaps you’re looking for some repair information. If you’re still within the warranty period then you may stop reading and just bring it to the manufacturer’s service center and have it fixed for free. Otherwise, please read on.
In my opinion, being able to do simple things like replacing the busted backlights or fix the power supply module of flat screen TVs should become an option for TV owners versus having no choice at all but to bring it in to a repair shop or service center and then get charged a painfully high premium a fix that would otherwise be a simple tweak. Learning how to repair your TV yourself can be a great exercise for you because it can save you a lot of money and perhaps even let you earn extra cash by doing the same service for others.

Please help. I have a 46in Westinghouse that was given to me. I’m going thru a divorce so funds are tight. I found (thru you-tube) that it needs a new ribbon cable. Being the most technologically challenged person ever, upon finding this I got a little excited and knocked over the back cover of the tv that I had leaning against a chair. In doing this, the cables connected to the power supply board (if that’s what it’s called—I’m talking about the twisted cables plugged into the ‘thingy’ on the back of the tv power button). Yes, that got unplugged and I don’t k now how to put it back together. If I can get this done, I’ve got a nice tv and replacement ribbon cables on the way. Please help?

I’ve even replaced the power board and main board on one of them. is there something else? I don’t see blow capacitors or any physical damage. can anyone recommend a good website or book on how to troubleshoot or repair TV’s? Both are Vizio Smart TV’s (one 39 and the other 60 inches) and I don’t have the money to buy new ones. One is <1 year old, the other is 2. Any help is appreciated.

We have 2 1/2 years old Insignia 42″ smart tv. It was rated very highly when we purchased it. For about a month now it’s gotten very dark, like the contrast is turned toward black. Everything else is fine. Is this a common problem and can it be repaired?? We were told to check the dish receiver connection, which seems fine. Even DVD are dark. Thanks anyone.

While moving my screen was ‘pushed in’. It now has a bright light at the top almost as if the bulb is shining through. Other than that, it’s clear. Is this repairable?
It isn’t cracked. Almost seems like we can push it back through if we were able (and gutsy) to open the back of the TV.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you in advance!
