Ultra Quick Fix for a Vizio LCD/LED/Smart TV that Won’t Turn On

If you’re Vizio flat screen LCD/LED/Smart TV is not turning on for some reason, take a deep breath and don’t panic because there are a couple of things that you can try to turn this potential disaster around. These potential quick fixes are courtesy of a video by Studio 6060 Youtube channel and are surprisingly effective for a good number of people who tried them, based on the comments posted by viewers who experienced the issue on their Vizios.

You can try the following steps:

  1. Unplug the TV from the wall socket. Wait for about 1 minute before plugging it back in and re-try turning the TV back on. Do not be impatient and be sure to complete the 1 minute before plugging back in. If this doesn’t work, proceed to the next item below.

  1. Get the remote control. Open the battery panel cover and take out the batteries. Press the power button for a full 15 seconds. Again, don’t be be impatient and complete the 15 seconds. Put back the batteries back in and try turning the TV on.

If any of the above steps work, and at some point in the future you encounter the same problem where the TV won’t turn on again, repeat the the steps again but this time you will want to perform a factory reset of your TV to hopefully fix the issue permanently.

You can do the reset via the menu system of the TV. For Vizio TVs, you will usually get to this option by pressing the “Menu” button on the remote; then going into “System” –> “Reset & Admin” —> “Reset TV to Factory Defaults“. If you’re Vizio model’s menu system looks different, best thing to do is to refer to the reference manual for that specific model.

What the factory reset does is to bring back or restore the TV’s software to its original out-of-the-box state. This somewhat drastic measure will erase any software updates or user customization that has been done to the unit and usually works in fixing these bugs.

Once you note that the problem has stopped recurring, you could try and apply any of the updates or customization once again. Doing them gradually or one at a time may help you isolate which actions (if any) could be causing the problem in the first place.

If the problem recurs, our suggestion is to consult with Vizio’s technical support as soon as possible; especially if the unit is still within the warranty period.
