What to do when your Samsung Smart TV won’t connect to Wifi?

Samsung is one of the top electronics TV manufacturers out there. It is definitely one of the most innovative flat screen TV makers and has been one of the leaders among the other top brands in the industry. That said, their devices still fall prey to one of the most common problems in today’s electronically connected world.

Sometimes, they just won’t connect to Wi-fi!

When your Samsung Smart TV is suddenly not smart enough to find your Internet connection, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take before calling in the TV repair man.

Check your Internet connection first

If your Samsung TV is having Internet connection problems or is refusing to connect to Wifi, the very first thing you need to do is to check if your Wi-fi router is working okay. You should perform a restart of your router and check if that fixes it. It would also be logical and helpful to check your other devices’ connections as well, because that would tell you which device you need to look closer into. For example, if your smart phone, tablet and/or laptop are able to connect then, that points to a possible issue with your Samsung. On the other hand, if all your devices aren’t connecting, you may be having an issue with your router and you should start troubleshooting and fixing it before proceeding with the next steps. You may also try connecting your smart TV via an ethernet cable and see if it starts connecting. If you are absolutely sure that your Wifi is working as it should be, proceed with steps indicated in the video below.

Simple steps that may fix your Smart TV Wifi connection problems

  1. The very first step is the simplest: Turn off your TV and unplug it. Wait at least 1 minute before plugging back in and turning on. If that fixes then great! But do take the time to proceed to the second step.
  2. Whether step 1 works or not, the next one should be to perform a software update. This can be done via the Settings menu and is detailed in the video above. You may also find this step discussed in more detail in a related post (Read this article: Netflix Not Working on your Samsung Smart TV? Here’s What You Can Do.).
  3. If the previous step still does not work, you can proceed to try tinkering with the DNS settings as this is also a common cause of this problem. This can also be done in the settings menu. This is also discussed in the article cited in Step 2 above.
  4. Last but not the least, you can perform a factory reset. This is the most likely to fix any Wifi issues but is the most involved of steps because it will return all settings to its original state as it came out of the Samsung factory. You will need to re-do all the customization that you have done up to the point prior to your TV having Wifi connectivity issues.

In conclusion, if your Samsung Smart TV won’t connect to your Wifi, do not panic. Just follow the above steps which are simple enough for everyone to follow, and you should be good to go back watching your favorite streaming TV shows and playing your video games.
