Your TCL Roku Smart TV having the black screen blues?

It’s probably an issue we will need to deal with at some point in time with our beloved Smart TVs so I hope this post helps you when your TV’s time comes.

Is there a way to quickly fix this issue? Or does it usually entail complicated electronics know-how? The answer is yes to both questions. But in this post we discuss only a possible quick fix that you can attempt before moving on to more complicated maneuvers.

If you are TCL Smart TV’s screen is blacked out but you hear the usual noise & beeps it does when you turn it on; and if the LED backlights are working properly, then trying the suggested quick solution below is definitely worth the effort.

Possible Quick Fix

One of the first things you should attempt is a system reboot of your TCL Smart TV as there are reports that this works in a good number of cases. However, since the screen is blacked out and you are not seeing images/pictures, how exactly do you do it? How are you going to perform the reboot if you cannot see the TV’s system settings menu?

Well, you can go through the menu even if you don’t see the menu!

Get the remote control and perform the follow steps:

  1. Press the Home button 5 times.
  2. Press the Up arrow button 1 time.
  3. Press the Rewind button 2 times.
  4. Press the Fast Foward button 2 times.

This should get run the system reboot that hopefully fixes the black screen of death problem with your TCL Roku Smart TV. Note that the reboot process takes a bit of time to complete so be patient.

Good luck!

You may watch the video below for reference. Not the best quality video but it does put across the steps clearly. Also, the problem has been fixed when they shot the video so you will see the screen working okay in it. A good illustration of how you go through the menus even when you can’t see it.

When that doesn’t work, and it probably won’t, the keypad thing is the same as using restart in the menu system. I hit the * key , went to picture mode and took it off low power. The low power makes it keep losing the video signal, and when it does that it goes to black screen
