In a previous post, we discussed the cracked TV screen repair dilemma and the considerations that should come into play in deciding whether a LCD TV screen replacement is in order. Basically, there not much going for this option due to good ol’ economics. Simply put, replacing the LCD panel of a flat screen TV is just too expensive for its own good. People are usually better off buying a new unit instead of doing the screen transplant.
Today, I saw an LG TV repair Youtube video that illustrates a situation where replacing your LCD TV panel is simply the only decision. Watch below:
Video: LG TV Screen Replacement via Manufacturer’s Warranty
Yep, the only time to consider TV screen replacement as the best course of action is when the manufacturer’s warranty is still in force. There’s another situation in mind (which I also proposed in the previous article mentioned above) but that involves doing a transplant from a “for parts” unit assuming you can find one.
But generally, it is much better to consider buying a new unit instead of replacing the LCD panel, again due to the costs involved (which could be as expensive or more expensive than buying a new TV altogether).
In the video, it would seem that the diagnostic process involved replacing the main board and the T-Con board (also covered by the warranty, I would assume), which are two common culprits when it comes to losing images on LCD/LED TV screens (we discussed something similar in previous post about identifying common Vizio main board symptoms in LCD TVs). However, when that did not solve the problem, they proceeded with the TV screen replacement.
Another takeaway here is the fact that LG definitely did good with the customer here and that is always a great thing. Plus points for good after sales service always! And probably a good argument in favor of buying extended warranties. Well, maybe not but if you can afford one, why not?
