Here’s a nice little instructional video showing the repair process for one of the most common issues people are having with some Vizio LCD TV models. That is, the unit turns on and the LED power indicator lights up but no video ever shows up (although the backlight does light up) and then it seems to lock up in such a way that you will not be able to turn the TV back off using the remote. The unit is a Vizio LCD flat screen television with model # VX37L HDTV10A with a manufacturing date of Aug, 2007. A not so surprising reveal is that these units, while seemingly an American brand, are actually made in China. Does that explain why people are complaining about Vizio TVs? Well, it’s really up to you to judge but you should also consider that other brands get an equal share of complaints as well.

A little warning emphasized in the video is that before you disassemble the unit, be sure to lay it down flat on a work table because if you unscrew the base off while it’s standing up, the panel will unhinge straight off the base and fall over because it does not have safety retainers to keep it attached to the base when unscrewed. So there.
The video proceeds to give some instructions on the disassembly process and gives step-by-step pointers on the primary items to perform diagnostic tests on. You’ll need a volt meter to test the suspect components and determine what the problem is. It will also require some skill with the soldering iron so be sure you got that down before you proceed. And based on the video, problem is being caused by a faulty voltage regulator on the board and the video will show you how to figure that out. That isn’t the only possible cause for a problem like this though as a faulty processor could also be the culprit. Just so happens this one was caused by a busted regulator.
Part needed is a voltage regulator with part no. 497-1229-1-ND and video suggests that you can buy this from Digi-Key or any similar online store (See our TV parts stores directory for other possible sources you can check out)

Safety Warning: If you’re new to electronics repair, please be careful. Read up on safety information first and always plan ahead. Be sure to have the necessary tools and equipment that you need and don’t do any improvisation if you are not sure what you’re doing. You could end up with something worse than a busted television.

My Vizio smart TV has been acting up. It suddenly gets a screeching sound and goes blank – no picture, no audio. I turn off the power and it reboots, then it works for an hour or two. Again, does the same thing. Cable technician checked out everything and told me to get a new TV. Do I have to get a new TV. It is a 40″ model E470i-AO

My brand new 24 inch Visio TV is connected to my PC via HDMI. The TV input is on HDMI 1 as is the cable. The TV screen goes black intermittently and in 10 or 15 seconds comes back on. Very annoying.
Product Type 2D-LCD TV
Model Number D24h-G9
Especially common problem when I change programs or am on the internet.
How can I make this tv work as a monitor for my PC without the screen going on and off?
